JoAnne Futrell

Such a wonderful person and a Mom beyond all Moms. Always there with a smile, a snack and some kind words. Somehow managed to keep order in a house full of kids and make sure everyone who walked in the door felt welcome. Simply, one of the nicest people I have ever been lucky enopugh to meet....... All my love and prayers go out to the Futrell family....

Joanne was such a wonderful lady. I meant Joanne at Edwards Florist when I started working for my Aunt Nancy. She was such a sweet person and mother figure for me. We worked together for many years and after we both parted Edwards and I had my kids we still kept in touch by going out to dinner from time to time. She bought my son a Book, Danny and the Dinasour and I read it to both my kids

God’s garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb, so He closed your weary eyelids and whispered "Peace be thine". It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn’t go alone, for part of us went with you the day God called you home.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Futrell. Like so many who grew up with the Futrell kids, I have many wonderful memories of spending time at the Futrell home. Because of her generosity and kindness, their home was the center of the neighborhood for all of us. Mrs. Futrell was a wonderful, loving example of grace and charm. We are all blessed and so much better for having had her in our lives. My family and I send our deepest sympathies to the Futrell family.

A beautiful woman that I met on my trip in Florida with her family. We started to talk & talk as if we were friends for years. I am thankful to have met Jo-anne our children have kept contact since then .

One of the funniest and favorite memory stories Jim, JoAnne, and the two of us told again and again came from a time when they stayed overnight with us in St. Louis.
Sue got the idea of putting

Sue got the idea of putting a piece of wrapped chocolate on the Futrell's pillows like they do in some fancy hotels. Jim went to bed before the rest of us. JoAnne followed soon after. As Sue was tidying up the kitchen, she heard JoAnne coming back down the hallway and saw her vigorously plucking something out of her pretty blond hair. JoAnne was sleepily mumbling, "What the heck is this stuff?"
Not wanting to awaken Jim she had not turned on the light and didn't see the candy. She just climbed into bed. After moving her head around on the pillow a time or two the chocolate came unwrapped and became smeared in her hair.
After Sue washed JoAnne's hair and changed pillowcases, all of us had a good laugh and went to bed.
She will be greatly missed. But perhaps the following saying by Tagori, a Bengali poet will comfort.
"Death is not extinguishing the light. He is turning out the lamp because the dawn has come."

Mrs. Futrell - as i will always know her as - will always live in my heart.

As a shining example of how one human being should treat another human being.

I never forgot the kindness and compassion she showed me when I was growing up in Northbrook. I heard her once say, "Those that are hardest to love - need it the most."

Those are just words - but Mrs. Futrell lived it.

I am blessed to have had the fortune to experience her grace.

I am saddened to hear the unfortunate news about JoAnne. My parents and the Futrell's have always been great friends. In late 1950's St. Louis, we often got together with the Futrell's for weekend party's, BBQ's, and great fun! Some of my earliest memories are of "Uncle" Jim and "Aunt" JoAnne; they truly were like second parents to me and my brother. I'm lucky to have such great memories of this especially nice and very classy lady. My sincerest sympathies to the Futrell family; JoAnne will be deeply missed.

All my love to the family. JoAnne's big heart goes without saying to all that spent any time in her presence, but my fondest memory is just the music of her warm laugh. I share your sadness with her passing and am blessed to have shared your love and life. My thoughts are with you all. Best, Ty

To Jim and all the family.
Many found memories. You gave wonderful parties. The children loved the tree decorating parties. We had many phone converations on what to cook for the holidays and for out of town company.
No matter how bad things were, she also had a positive view on the outcome.
WE all had so much fun attending the Parks reunions together.
Joanne will be truly missed.
